SMU becomes latest college tennis program to add PlaySight technology and PlayFair video replay

DALLAS (PlaySight) - The SMU Mustangs tennis program have recently added pro-level live streaming, performance video and analytics technology from PlaySight.

Close to 90 NCAA tennis programs are training and playing with PlaySight's Smart AI and connected camera tennis technology, and the SMU Mustangs are the latest program to install PlaySight, bringing the technology to the SMU Tennis Complex. PlaySight first entered the college tennis world back in 2014, and since that time has worked with its team partners as well as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) to expand the profile and enhance the visibility of the sport through technology.

PlaySight's college partners all use the technology in different ways – from live stream broadcasts for parents, alumni and fans, to on-court training and match video and analytics performance technology. "PlaySight will change how we train as we can see real time data to assess our strengths and weaknesses," said Men's Tennis Head Coach Grant Chen. "We look forward to broadcasting our matches around the world. Our parents, alums and fans will be able to watch on their computer, tablet or phone."

Tennis is such an international sport, and that flavor extends to the college game. With its automated production and HD live stream broadcasts, PlaySight ensures that teams with international players – and even Americans from across the country – are able to share live streams and on-demand video from their matches with their family, friends and coaches back home.

Over the past three years, PlaySight and the ITA have been working together to create a video replay system to further raise up the level of sportsmanship within the sport, and SMU has become the latest school to become PlayFair-enabled, with video replay capabilities on six or more of its home courts for dual matches. "We are thrilled to have PlayFair technology to help show accurate line calls during competition," said Chen. "As the first school in the conference and state of Texas to integrate PlayFair in competition this spring will ensure good sportsmanship."

The feedback from PlayFair – players, coaches and officials – has been very positive and PlaySight and the ITA look forward to working closely with programs like SMU to continually improve on the platform and experience for participating PlayFair schools.

"We're really excited as a company to continue to add great programs and facilities to the growing PlaySight network of colleges," said Josh Graves, PlaySight's Head of Racquet Sports. "The facility is incredible and our technology – from live streaming to PlayFair to video and data for training and improvement – is going to have a huge impact on the Mustangs program, from coaches to players to fans, parents and alumni."
