Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU volleyball team lost in Moody Coliseum for just the second time this season, snapping a streak of six straight home wins. The loss came in four sets (24-26, 25-20, 21-25, 19-25) against a UCF team that is tied for first in the league with Cincinnati.
Rachel Woulfe led the Mustangs (15-7, 8-4 The American) with 17 kills, and freshman
Jadyn Bauss finished with 16. McKenna Melville scored 20 kills to lead the Knights (18-6, 11-1 The American), and two other UCF players scored 13 kills.
SMU posted 11 blocks in the match, with six from
Meryn Kennedy. The Mustangs' defense also tallied 71 digs to UCF's 59.
Montana Watts led the way with 18, while
Lily Heim had 11 digs with 53 assists for her 14th double-double of the season.
UCF won the third and fourth sets to end the match. The Knights took a five-point advantage midway through the third set, 18-13. SMU cut the lead to two, 21-19, but could not get any closer, losing the set 25-21. In the fourth set, the Knights led by two, 17-15, before pulling away for a 25-19 win.
SMU won the second set after scoring five straight points to break a 16-16 tie. The Mustangs kept the five-point lead to win the set, 25-20. Bauss had seven kills in the set, and SMU held UCF to a .130 attack percentage while outscoring the Knights, 19-11.
UCF edged out the Mustangs in the first set, winning 26-24 for the early advantage. The score was tied 12 times in the set, including five times down the stretch starting with a 19-19 lock. The Knights took a two-point lead and had a chance to end the set in regulation with a 24-22 advantage. SMU scored the next two points to even the score, but it was the last time it was knotted up. The Knights took advantage of an SMU service error and posted a block to win the set, 26-24.
The Mustangs travel to Wichita State Friday and play at Tulsa Sunday on the final road trip of the regular season.
