NEW ORLEANS (SMU) –Brigitte Dunne led SMU Women's golf with a three-over 75 in the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Sunday. Dunne is tied seven shots behind tournament leader Ana Belac from Duke. The Mustangs finished the first round of the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship tied for 16th with No. 14 Arizona State, in a field that features nine top-25 teams.

"The team is playing tight golf and we need to let go," said head coach Jeanne Sutherland. "We can hold our own if we take our game to the field."

Faith Summers finished two strokes behind Dunne at 5-over (77). Ana Paula Ramirez and Lauren Chappell each contributed 76 to the team's total. Kennedy Pedigo concluded the round at 11-over.

Play continues tomorrow morning with the second round of the tournament starting at 9 a.m. paired against Arizona State and UC Davis. The third and final round will take place on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. start.
