INDIANAPOLIS (SMU) – Freshman
Parker Hardigree now has back-to-back conference championships after winning one meter on night two of the American Athletic Conference Championships. The four-day event is being held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Hardigree won the one-meter competition by nearly 36 points, posting a career mark of 324.00. The total included an average round score of 54.00 and a 15.4 degree of difficulty, higher than any other diver. Like three meter, this is the sixth consecutive year a Mustang has stood atop the podium in the event.
Junior
Ralph Koo also competed in a Championship Final, representing the Mustangs in the 50-yard freestyle. Koo placed fifth with a finals time of 20.21, a season best.
A total of 12 additional swimmers competed in night two finals, including two in the 500-yard freestyle and five in both the 200-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle.
Lucas Schenke was 10th overall in the 500 free (4:27.29), while
Ridge Livermore finished 13th (4:33.38).
In 200 IM action,
Garrett Carson and
Brayden Rudd tied for runner-up honors in the Consolation Final, both finishing in career-topping times of 1:50.57.
Connor Dalbo finished 12th,
Kianu Kitching was 14th and
Matan Segal 15th.
Freshman
Jesse Washington was the Mustangs' top finisher in the 50 free Consolation Final, placing 11th overall in a time of 20.81. The mark was identical to his prelims time, giving him his best performance of the season.
Matthew Nutter (12th, 20.84),
Carson Klein (13th, 20.85),
Aedan Lewis (15th, 20.96) and
Simon Golczyk (16th, 21.08) all posted personal bests in either prelims or finals.
To close the night, SMU finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Koo, Klein, Nutter and Schenke registered a time of 1:20.58.
Cincinnati sits atop the team standings with 345 points. ECU is second at 320, Connecticut third with 288 and the Mustangs fourth at 204.
The Championships resume for day three action on Friday with the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard medley relay. Visit The American's
