KANE'OHE, Hawaii (SMU) – SMU won the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational alongside No.2 Texas on Wednesday afternoon at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.

It was a back and forth battle between the Mustangs and the Longhorns on the final round. Both teams fought for the top spot all day, getting as far as five strokes apart in the back nine when SMU led with four holes left to play.

Going into the final hole, the Ponies led by one stroke, however, Texas managed to tie the score and earn a share of the title.

"I'm very proud of this team," said head coach Jeanne Sutherland. " We didn't have the best start this spring, but the team kept a great attitude and fought hard to get better every day."

"We looked at having a turnoff to Texas as a great opportunity to play against a number one ranked team," said Sutherland. "We were focused on playing as well or better than them each day and we did it."

SMU's top individual was senior Brigitte Dunne who jumped 10 spots on the leaderboard for a share of second place. The senior finished 3-over par and three strokes behind the individual leader, Courtney Dow of Texas A&M. Dunne and Dow led the tournament in birdies with 10 each.

Sophomore Kennedy Pedigo finished tied for fourth with a 5-over for the tournament (72-73-76).

Sophomore Lauren Chappell who carded rounds of 71-79-72 was the third Mustang to finish in the top 10, with a share of 6th place.

Junior Ana Paula Ramirez carded a total score of 225 (73-76-76) at nine-over-par and a T14 finish.

Rounding out the team was freshman Serena Shah carding her best round of the tournament with a score of 76. She finished the tournament at 22-over (77-85-76).

Competing individually, junior Faith Summers finished in 35th place carding 15-over (76-77-78).
