KANE'OHE, Hawaii (SMU) – The SMU women's golf team is in second place after two rounds on Tuesday at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii.
The Mustangs finished the first round in first, five strokes ahead of Texas A&M and nine strokes ahead of No. 2 Texas. Midway through the second round the Ponies dropped to third, but battled in the final holes for a total score of 593 (+17). The Longhorns are five strokes ahead at 12-over par in first going into the final round.
"We played a good first round and everybody fought really hard for their score," said head coach
Jeanne Sutherland. "The second round we didn't play as disciplined, but we still have a really good shot tomorrow to go out there and win."
Leading the Mustangs is sophomore
Kennedy Pedigo who is tied for third at 1-under par. Pedigo is three strokes behind the individual leader from Texas A&M, Courtney Dow.
"Kennedy played some really great golf today," said Sutherland. "It's nice to see her in the top five."
Senior
Brigitte Dunne and junior
Ana Paula Ramirez are tied with a share of 12th place at 5-over par through the second round.
Sophomore
Lauren Chappell led the Mustangs in the first round at 1-under par. Chappell carded 7-over in the second round putting her at 6-over par and tied for 14th going into the final round.
Freshman
Serena Shah rounded out the team's score at 16-over par with a share of 65th place.
Junior
Faith Summers, who is competing individually, is tied for 27th at 9-over par.
Redshirt freshman
Sophie DiGesualdo, the other individual, is 11-over par after two rounds of play with a share of 37th.
The Mustangs tee off at on Wednesday at 1 p.m. CT against No. 2 Texas, Texas A&M and North Texas for the final round.
