DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs completed a three-win weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern State and Abilene Christian on Sunday at the SMU Tennis Complex.

The 11 a.m. contest pitted the Mustangs against Northwestern State, who came into the match with just two losses on the season and a seven-match winning streak. In doubles the Mustangs dominated, at one point holding 4-0 leads on all courts. They finished with a doubles win with
Liza Buss and
Vivienne Kulicke winning on No. 1 and
Ana Perez-Lopez and
Sarai Monarrez Yesaki on No. 3, both by 6-1 scores.
Karina Traxler and
Tiffany Hollebeck were up 5-1 at the time of clinch.

The Mustangs kept up the pace into singles only conceding one of thirteen sets. Traxler was the first finisher as she made quick work, 6-1, 6-0.
Anzhelika Shapovalova and Hollebeck were winners by 6-2, 6-2 scores, with Shapovalova clinching the match.
Katherine Jakeway won the match's final eight games in her victory on court five.

After dropping the first three games, Perez-Lopez came roaring back to take the next 10 games and eventually the match. On No. 1, Kulicke lost set one but recovered with a second-set victory and prevailed in the super tiebreaker to complete the 7-0 victory.

In the 4:30 matchup contested indoors, the Mustangs again faced a team riding a significant winning streak. ACU came in winners of their last four before they met up with SMU. The Mustangs took doubles with wins from Buss/Kulicke and Hollebeck/Traxler.

In the singles, Perez-Lopez was the first finisher dropping just one game along the way. Jakeway did the same for the third Mustang point.
Liza Buss got her sixth line one victory on the season as she took her match, 6-1, 6-2 sealing the Mustangs third-straight victory.

Traxler remained perfect on the day with her 7-6, 6-0 victory, fighting off two set points before winning set one and cruising in set two.

A pair of Mustangs won their matches in 10-point third-set tiebreaker. After dropping the middle set, Shapovalova won the tiebreaker 10-3. Monarrez lost her first set but responded with a 6-2 win in set two and a 10-6 advantage in the extra set, putting the final tally at 7-0.

The Mustangs outscored their opponents 14-0 on the day and were winners in 28 of 31 sets. SMU improves to 7-9 on the season while Northwestern State and ACU fall to 13-3 and 8-8 respectively.

The Mustangs are next in action on Tuesday in Fort Worth against TCU. In a doubleheader with SMU men's Tennis, the women take on the Horned Frogs at 3 pm while the men face the local rivals at 5:30.
