BOX SCORE SEASON STATS

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU women's tennis dropped a conference matchup on Sunday to Tulsa, 5-2, from the SMU TennIs Complex.

Tulsa got off to an early lead with a tight victory in doubles. The Mustangs lost on courts one and two but Karina Traxler and Tiffany Hollebeck were able to pull out a 6-4 victory on No. 4.

The first Mustang win came from Anzhelika Shapovalova on No. 3. After starting in a 1-3 hole she roared back to take set one, 6-3 and made quick work in set two for the victory. Tulsa grabbed the lead back with a decisive win on No. 2, 6-0, 6-3 over Vivienne Kulicke. Traxler grinded out a first set win, 7-5 and rode the momentum in the second taking her court, 6-1 and knotting the score at two all.

Tulsa proved strong in the late match. Katherine Jakeway took a 6-4, 6-1 loss on No. 6 to put the Golden Hurricane within one point of clinch.

On No. 5, Ana Perez-Lopez cruised in set one before running into trouble later in the match. The senior fell in set two and couldn't get it going in the third, 0-6, 6-1, 6-4. Tulsa clinched the match to win their first conference contest of the season. Liza Buss played out her match with No. 98 Okalova. The first two sets were split and the match moved to a 10-point tiebreaker to decided the winner between the two ranked players. Buss came out on the wrong end of a 10-7 score.

SMU moves to 7-11 on the season and Tulsa improves to 13-8. The Mustang wrap up their home regular season schedule against UTA at 5 pm on Senior Day.
