DALLAS (SMU) – American Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Diver Parker Hardigree will represent the Mustangs at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships March 11-13 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
Hardigree, who was also named Co-Freshman of the Year by the league, achieved NCAA Zone qualifying scores on both 1- and 3-meter springboards and was crowned conference champion in both events. The Moultrie, Georgia, native also placed third on platform at the Championships.
He will compete on both springboards in Austin, with competition beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday.Â
Hardigree follows a rich tradition of SMU divers, with Mustangs qualifying for Zones each of the last seven years dating back to 2012. Most recently, Bryce Klein went on to earn 3-meter All-America honors in 2018, while Devin Burnett was also an All-America selection in 2015. The pair combined for a total of five NCAA Championship appearances.
Qualifying Spots Per Zone
Each zone is guaranteed four qualifying spots per event. Additional spots are given based on the number of student-athletes who placed in the top 16 of that event at the previous year's NCAA Championship. A diver who is an automatic qualifier in an event may advance to the NCAA Championships in another event, provided they have placed in the top 12 of that event and achieved the NCAA Zone score.
