PALM HARBOR, Fla. (SMU) – The SMU women's golf team took sixth place at the American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mustangs finished 28-over par for the tournament, 11 strokes behind second place UCF. The Ponies played their best round of the tournament on Tuesday firing two-over par (298-304-290 – 892). Â
Houston claimed the conference title finishing 13-under par, putting them 30 strokes ahead of UCF. Houston's Leonie Harm claimed the individual title at 11-under par.
Senior
Brigitte Dunne was the top finisher for the Mustangs at 4-over for the tournament (70-75-70 – 220) carding a two-under final round, her best of the tournament. She claimed 11th on the individual leaderboard.
Dunne carded nine birdies for the tournament, putting her at 350 birdies for her SMU career, the most since Jenny Haglund's 313 from 2013 to 2016.
One stroke behind Dunne, sophomore
Lauren Chappell finished T-12. Chappell played the final round on par for a 5-over finish (75-74-72 – 221).
Junior
Faith Summers played a final round on par carding five birdies. She finished the tournament at 7-over par for a share of 19th place (74-77-72 – 223).
"Brigitte, Faith and Lauren had good rounds of golf today," said head coach
Jeanne Sutherland. "[As a team] we had a good run in the front nine, better than yesterday."
Junior
Ana Paula Ramirez (76-78-76 – 230) finished 14-over par and tied for 34th place.
Rounding out the team, sophomore
Kennedy Pedigo (74-81-80 – 155) played an 8-over final round for a 19-over finish in the tournament.
The Mustangs await selection day for NCAA regionals, which takes place Wednesday April 24 at 6:30 p.m. CT on the Golf Channel. Regionals take place May 6-8 hosted by one of four schools Auburn, Washington, Michigan State or Oklahoma.
