ARGYLE, Texas (SMU) – Junior
Faith Summers tied for third, a season-best, with a 6-under par finish at The Bruzzy on Tuesday afternoon.
Summers ended the tournament with a bang, as she birdied her final three holes and a total of seven in the round. The junior jumped up 11 spots on the leaderboard from Monday afternoon finishing just three strokes behind the individual co-champions.
"Congratulations to Faith, it's been a tough year for her," said head coach
Jeanne Sutherland. "I think she has shown a lot of perseverance working through this injury so it's nice to see that things are coming around for her."
Going into the final round, SMU shared 11th place with Texas A&M. The Mustangs outplayed the Aggies by three strokes in the final round to move up and finish 10th in the tournament at 19-over par (294-292-297=883).
"I think we competed very well today we looked like we were one-hundred percent into what we were doing," said Sutherland. "It was a tough day out there with the wind and the hole locations so we competed well."
Senior
Brigitte Dunne played her best round, sinking four birdies for a 2-under 70 round. Dunne ended the tournament on par with a share of 17th place.
Junior
Ana Paula Ramirez played a final round of 76 putting her 6-over for the tournament (75-71-76=222) and a share of 41st place.
Sophomore
Lauren Chappell carded a 5-over final round for a 9-over par finish (74-74-77=224) tied for 57th.
Rounding out the Mustangs were junior
Kennedy Pedigo at 12-over par and a score of 228 (80-74-74) and redshirt freshman
Sophie DiGesualdo at 10-over par and a score of 226 (72-77-77).
Competing individually, freshman
Serena Shah finished 24-over par (81-76-83=240).
Baylor captured the team title with an 854 score at 10-under par followed by Ole Miss at 8-under par. Individually, Gurleen Kaur from Baylor and Hailee Cooper from Texas tied for first at nine-under par.
SMU returns to the green at the American Athletic Conference Championships in Palm Coast, Fla., on Sunday April 14.
