Aug 13

DALLAS (SMU) -- Women's golf head coach Jeanne Sutherland announced the signing of three newcomers who will join the SMU women's golf team in the fall of 2019.

Megan Daleo joins the Mustangs from Sonoma State University, where she found success last year as a freshman by winning four tournaments. She was recognized as the CCAA Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-CCAA First Team. The Plano, Texas, native competed as an individual at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship, finishing T-62 among some of the country's best golfers. She concluded her freshman year by being honored as a Division II Honorable Mention All-American.

"Megan is a great addition to our team. She's a great person with high character and her golf game is very good." Sutherland said. "She won four times last year, and a lot of that game will transfer to our level because she knows how to win."

Grace Griggs was a part of two state championships at Edmond North High School under coach Brock VanCleave, finishing in the top 10 individually her junior and senior years. As a high school senior, Griggs was named to the Oklahoma All-State golf team and also won the 2018 Oak Tree Country Club Junior Golf Championship.

"Grace comes from a great tradition of golf at Edmond North. She's had a lot of success at the team level and will be a really good addition to our team." Sutherland said.

The final Mustang is Ana Carola Ramirez, who comes to the Hilltop by way of Pachuca, Mexico. Ramirez was a four-year letterwinner in high school and a two-time national champion. In addition to her national championships, she was a 10-time regional champion in Mexico. She has won three AJGA qualifiers and finished eighth in the 2018 Wincraft/McCarthur Towel and Future Legends Championship.

"Ana Carola comes to us with a ton of international experience and is a really good golfer," Sutherland commented. "We know she'll be ready to go and works really hard and will fit right in with our team."

The Mustangs begin their season by hosting the Trinity Forest Invitational on Sept. 9-10.
