Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (SMU) – The SMU volleyball team went 2-0 without losing a set Friday at the Missouri State Fall Invitational. The Mustangs swept (RV) Dayton in the first match of the tournament before knocking off the host Bears in the nightcap, improving to 6-1 on the season.

Lily Heim ran the offense to perfection in the opening set against the Bears (3-6). The sophomore guided SMU to a 25-15 win with a .467 attack percentage as SMU scored 14 kills with no errors. SMU edged out MSU, winning the second set 25-22 and the third 25-23 to end the match.
The Mustangs hit .351 overall, led by
Hannah Jacobs who scored 16 kills and hit .600 with just one error.
Rachel Woulfe finished with 12 kills, and Mekenzie Heckmann added nine. Heim had 36 assists and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
In the opener, SMU led the Flyers 20-9 before the team that had just beaten then-No. 14 Michigan stormed back. Dayton (3-5) cut the lead to one, 23-22, with a 13-3 run, forcing SMU to call a timeout. After the timeout, Dayton blocked an SMU attack to tie the score, 23-23. Junior
Meryn Kennedy answered, combining with Heckmann to post a block and maintain the advantage. Kennedy scored the kill on the next point to claim the set, 25-23.
Trailing 16-12 in the second set, it was the Mustangs who mounted the comeback. SMU scored eight of the next 10 points to take a 20-18 lead, and held off the Flyers to win 25-22. The Mustangs pulled away late in the third set, winning 25-19 for the 3-0 win.
Heim had 40 assists on SMU's 46 kills. Woulfe led the Mustangs against Dayton with 15 kills, and Jacobs finished with 13.
Montana Watts had 19 digs against Dayton and 13 against MSU, averaging 5.33 per set for the day.
SMU takes on Weber State Saturday at 10 a.m. to wrap up action at the MSU Fall Invitational.
