HOUSTON (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming team won six events in a 161-101 dual meet loss against Rice on Saturday afternoon in Houston.
Felicia Anderson and
Olivia Grossklaus each picked up two individual wins to lead the Mustangs at the event.
Anderson swept backstroke events for SMU, leading a pair of Mustangs in the top three of the 100-yard event. Anderson clocked in at 55.90 for the victory, while
Sam Smith came in third in a time of 58.51. In the 200, Anderson covered the distance in 2:00.16 to lead the field.
Grossklaus picked up her wins in the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle on Saturday. Her win in the fly was a season-best 2:00.80, while her 500 free time paced the field in 4:57.56.
SMU's final two victories came from
Erin Trahan (55.24) in the 100-yard butterfly and
Gabi Grobler (2:03.90) in the 200-yard individual medley.
Janelle Gursoy joined Grobler with a successful IM performance, finishing third in 2:06.17.
Grobler (52.21) and Gursoy (52.32) also teamed up for top three performances in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing second and third, respectively.
Other notable individual finishes came from Trahan, who earned runner-up honors in the 50-yard freestyle and
Frederica Kizek, who was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
SMU picked up second place points from both of its relays at the event. In the opening 200-yard medley relay, Anderson,
Elise Johnson, Trahan and
Alex Stevens teamed up for a 1:45.10, while Trahan, Smith, Anderson and Stevens closed the event with a 1:35.09 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
There was no diving at the event as Rice does not sponsor diving.
SMU is back in action Saturday, Jan. 25 at American Athletic Conference opponent Tulane. The event begins at 2 p.m.
