DALLAS (SMU) - SMU fell in the conference opener to No. 1 UConn, 80-42, inside Moody Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

The top-ranked Huskies (12-0, 3-0 AAC) led all the way thanks to a strong effort from Christyn Williams who scored a game-high 21 points. SMU trailed by 10 after the first quarter but allowed 30 points to UConn in the second quarter and trailed by 27 at the half. The Mustangs defense had a stronger second half, limiting UConn to a 31-20 advantage.

SMU (6-7, 0-1 AAC) was led by
Amber Bacon with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Bacon chipped in seven boards and three assists on the day.
Reagan Bradley reached 11 points while also grabbing three steals.

Johnasia Cash had another strong day on the glass with her eighth double-digit rebound game of the season. She finished with 11 boards, two points, two steals.

Next up, the Mustangs travel for a two-game road trip. SMU faces ECU on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. for the conference road opener before taking on Temple in Philadelphia on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
