DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team swept night one events against Drury at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium on Thursday.
The Mustangs opened and closed the event with relay wins, collecting victories in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay.
Johanna Gudmundsdottir, Indra Vandenbussche, Sam Smith and Gabi Grobler teamed up for the win in the 200 free relay at 1:32.22, while Vandenbussche, Grobler, Maxine Parkinson and Gudmundsdottir won the 400 medley relay in 3:42.27.
In individual action, SMU picked up its first win from freshman Parkinson in the 100-yard butterfly Championship Final. Parkinson dropped her season-best time to 54.65 for the victory. She led a pair of Mustangs in the top three, with Valentina Becerra (54.87) coming in second.
Olivia Grossklaus cruised to victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a career-best 4:50.97, ahead of teammate Katie Jordan, who touched the wall in 4:54.80 for third.
The 200-yard individual medley saw a Mustang sweep as Grobler (2:01.18) led Jenna Watson (2:04.34) and Janelle Gursoy (2:04.75) to a 1-2-3 finish.
In the final individual swimming event, freshmen Vandenbussche and Gudmundsdottir paced SMU in the 50-yard freestyle. Vandenbussche covered the distance in 23.29 for the win, while Gudmundsdottir was third in 23.38.
SMU also swept diving action, with Nicole Stambo leading the way on 1 meter. Stambo posted a personal-best 294.08 for the win, while Taylor Ohlhauser's 286.58 was good for second. Johanna Holloway rounded out the top three with a 274.20. All three scores were above the NCAA Zone qualifying score. Ohlhauser also posted a career mark in prelims of 288.45.
The three-day event continues Friday with the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 3 meter, 200 medley relay and 800 free relay. Preliminary action begins at 10 a.m., with diving at 1 p.m. and finals at 4 p.m. Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile App. The event is closed to the public.
