Mustangs Pick Up Five Wins On Day Two Against Drury

DALLAS (SMU) – Four different individuals helped lead the Mustangs with wins on night two against Drury at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium Friday.
SMU picked up its first victory of the day from Nicole Stambo, who won 3 meter with a six-round 311.55. Stambo was one of two Mustangs to post NCAA Zone scores on the boards Friday, with Taylor Ohlhauser registering a 308.18 for second place. Johanna Holloway finished third at 279.00.
Frederica Kizek won the first individual event of the night in the pool, covering the distance in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:23.29, dropping nearly nine seconds from her prelim swim. Jenna Watson was second in the event at 4:24.91.
SMU followed the performance up with a sweep in the 200-yard freestyle, led by Indra Vandenbussche. The freshman clocked a 1:48.65 for the win ahead of teammates Olivia Grossklaus (1:50.30) and Meriel Upton (1:50.64).
The Mustangs' outing in the 100-yard breaststroke gave the team back-to-back sweeps as Maxine Parkinson (1:03.50) led the trio in that race. Finishing second was Julia Yakushi (1:03.63) and third was Maddy Lewis (1:04.14).
Gabi Grobler (2nd, 54.44) and Sam Smith (3rd, 56.90) posted top three finishes in the 100-yard backstroke to close out individual events for the night.
In relay action, SMU's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Vandenbussche, Grossklaus, Janelle Gursoy and Upton won by over seven seconds, touching the wall in 7:22.14.
The Mustangs' 200-yard medley relay team of Vandenbussche, Grobler, Parkinson and Johanna Gudmundsdottir turned in a season-best performance of 1:41.44 to finish second.
The final day of action is Saturday and includes the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay. Preliminary action begins at 10 a.m. with finals to follow at 4 p.m. Live results can be found on the Meet Mobile App. The event is closed to the public.
