SMU hosts Houston Baptist on Wednesday to finish the season-opening three-game homestand. The Mustangs are 2-0 after defeating Sam Houston State 97-67 in the season opener and A&M-Corpus Christi 91-54 on Monday.
In the win versus A&M-CC, SMU had 5 score in double figures with Feron Hunt leading the way at 19 points. Emmanuel Bandoumel had a career-high 17, Ethan Chargois 12, Kendric Davis 11 and Charles Smith IV 11. The Mustangs had 26 assists on 33 field goals, with Davis recording 11 for his fourth career points-assists double-double. Chargois also had a double-double with 11 rebounds as SMU recorded a 46-29 advantage on the glass. SMU held A&M-CC to 31.1% shooting.
SMU is 49-12 in regular-season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich. The Mustangs are 40-4 at Moody Coliseum in those games, 3-4 in neutral-site games and 6-4 in true road games.

The Mustangs finished the shortened 2019-20 season with a 19-11 overall record. SMU went 15-2 at Moody Coliseum, winning eight of nine home games in league play. SMU led the AAC in scoring (72.9), field goal percentage (45.1%), free-throw percentage (76.2%, 25th NCAA), assists (15.6, 19th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2).
Kendric Davis and Tyson Jolly were selected preseason All-American Athletic Conference. Davis was honored to the first team with Jolly named to the second team. The Mustangs were picked to finish third in the conference race behind Houston and Memphis.
OPENING THE RIGHT WAY: SMU opened the season with a 97-67 win over Sam Houston State at Moody Coliseum. Kendric Davis had a career-high 33 points to set the SMU record in an opener that was previously 30 points by Ira Terrell at Saint Louis on 11-29-1975. It was also the most points in an opener for SMU since a 110-69 win against Hardin-Simmons to open 1999-2000 and the largest victory since an 85-50 win against Sam Houston State to start the 2015-16 campaign.
90+: With a 97-67 win vs Sam Houston State on 11/25 and a 91-54 victory vs A&M-Corpus Christi on 11/30, the Mustangs have scored 90-plus in two straight games for the first time since March of 2017 (93-70 vs Tulsa 3/2/17 and 103-62 vs Memphis on 3/4/17).
PRESEASON ALL-AAC: Kendric Davis (first team) and Tyson Jolly (second team) were selected to preseason All-AAC teams. The Mustangs were picked to finish third in the conference race behind Houston and Memphis. Davis was an All-AAC Third-Team honoree last season after leading the league with 6.7 assists (10th NCAA) and a 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19th NCAA). He was second for SMU in scoring at 14.2 points (8th AAC) while also averaging 4.1 rebounds. He shot 44.9% overall (12th AAC) and 85.4% on free throws (2nd AAC). Jolly was also All-AAC Third-Team last season after leading SMU in scoring at 14.5 points (7th AAC). He was third for SMU at 6.2 rebounds (13th AAC) and second with 2.3 assists per game. He shot 38.2% from three (7th AAC) and 78.0% at the free-throw line (14th AAC).
AAC LEADERS: Through the first two games, SMU leads the AAC in scoring (94.0, 15th NCAA), scoring margin (+33.5, 16th NCAA), FT% (84.8, 12th NCAA), FG% (52.5, 35th NCAA), 3FG% (42.0, 33rd NCAA), rebounds (46.0, 21st NCAA), rebound defense (27.5), rebound margin (+18.5, 15th NCAA), blocked shots (5.0), assists (24.0, 6th NCAA) and 3FGs (10.5, 29th NCAA).
2019-20 SMU IN THE AAC: Last season, SMU led the American Athletic Conference in scoring (72.9), field goal percentage (45.1%), free-throw percentage (76.2%, 25th NCAA), assists (15.6, 19th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2). The Mustangs had four of the top 25 scorers in the AAC; Tyson Jolly (14.5, 7th), Kendric Davis (14.2, 8th), Isiaha Mike (14.0, 10th) and Feron Hunt (11.0, 25th AAC). Davis also led the league in assists (6.7, 10th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7, 19th NCAA). Davis was second in the league in free-throw percentage at 85.4% with Mike behind him at 80.5% (4th AAC) and Jolly at 78.0% (14th AAC). From the floor, Hunt ranked third in the AAC hitting 55.7% with Mike 8th (48.1%), Jolly 11th (45.8%) and Davis 12th (44.9%). From 3-point range, Tyson Jolly was 38.2% (7th AAC) and Isiaha Mike 37.7% (9th AAC). SMU finished third in the AAC in rebound margin (4.2) with three players in the top 15 (Hunt 6.7, 8th; Mike 6.3, 9th; Jolly 6.2, 13th).

HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his fifth season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 38th season as a collegiate coach, and his 16th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 249-170 (.594) [92-49 at SMU (.652), including 65-15 (.813) at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. In 2016-17, SMU finished 30-5 and No. 11 in the AP poll after winning The American regular season and tournament titles en route to the NCAA Tournament. In 2015-16, he coached the Mustangs to a 9-0 start as SMU was eventually the last unbeaten team in the country at 18-0, and winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. The Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added seven items to the trophy case. OPENING THE RIGHT WAY: SMU opened the season with a 97-67 win over Sam Houston State at Moody Coliseum. Kendric Davis had a career-high 33 points to set the SMU record in an opener that was previously 30 points by Ira Terrell at Saint Louis on 11-29-1975. It was also the most points in an opener for SMU since a 110-69 win against Hardin-Simmons to open 1999-2000 and the largest victory since an 85-50 win against Sam Houston State to start the 2015-16 campaign.
90+: With a 97-67 win vs Sam Houston State on 11/25 and a 91-54 victory vs A&M-Corpus Christi on 11/30, the Mustangs have scored 90-plus in two straight games for the first time since March of 2017 (93-70 vs Tulsa 3/2/17 and 103-62 vs Memphis on 3/4/17).
PRESEASON ALL-AAC: Kendric Davis (first team) and Tyson Jolly (second team) were selected to preseason All-AAC teams. The Mustangs were picked to finish third in the conference race behind Houston and Memphis. Davis was an All-AAC Third-Team honoree last season after leading the league with 6.7 assists (10th NCAA) and a 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19th NCAA). He was second for SMU in scoring at 14.2 points (8th AAC) while also averaging 4.1 rebounds. He shot 44.9% overall (12th AAC) and 85.4% on free throws (2nd AAC). Jolly was also All-AAC Third-Team last season after leading SMU in scoring at 14.5 points (7th AAC). He was third for SMU at 6.2 rebounds (13th AAC) and second with 2.3 assists per game. 2019-20 SMU IN THE AAC: Last season, SMU led the American Athletic Conference in scoring (72.9), field goal percentage (45.1%), free-throw percentage (76.2%, 25th NCAA), assists (15.6, 19th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2). The Mustangs had four of the top 25 scorers in the AAC; Tyson Jolly (14.5, 7th), Kendric Davis (14.2, 8th), Isiaha Mike (14.0, 10th) and Feron Hunt (11.0, 25th AAC). Davis also led the league in assists (6.7, 10th NCAA) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.7, 19th NCAA). HUNTING FOR REBOUNDS: Feron Hunt had 7 rebounds in each of the first two games. He has 7 or more rebounds in 35 of 64 career games. HEAD COACH TIM JANKOVICH... is in his fifth season at the helm at SMU after four seasons as the associate head coach. He is in his 38th season as a collegiate coach, and his 16th as a head coach. As a head coach, he is 249-170 (.594) [92-49 at SMU (.652), including 65-15 (.813) at Moody Coliseum (started 36-0, second best in NCAA history)]. That includes a 104-64 mark at ISU where his teams recorded four top-three finishes in the Missouri Valley, reached the conference tournament final three times and earned four NIT bids. As an assistant or head coach, his teams are 628-375 (.626) with six regular season conference championships, four league tournament titles, nine NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NIT bids. This is his 12th season as the leader of a Division I program, including five as head coach at Illinois State (2007-12) and four at North Texas (1993-97). The 2017-18 Mustangs started 13-6 with three wins over ranked opponents, topping No. 2 Arizona in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, No. 14 USC at Moody Coliseum and No. 7 Wichita State on the road. TROPHY CASE: Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Mustangs have added seven items to the trophy case.
