Mustangs Earn 163-78 Road Win At UNT

DENTON, Texas (SMU) –
The Mustangs went on the road for the first time this season and earned a 163-78 victory over North Texas in Denton on Saturday Morning.

Katie Jordan won the opening event in the pool, covering the distance in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:41.93. SMU also picked up wins in the 50-yard freestyle from Johanna Gudmundsdottir (24.09) and 100-yard freestyle from Indra Vandenbussche (52.94).

The top three finishers in the 50 were Mustangs, as Sam Smith and Kendall Stieben finished in order.

Jenna Watson and Frederica Kizek finished 1-2 in the 400-yard individual medley, led by Watson's 4:30.82.

SMU saw a four-swimmer sweep in the 200-yard butterfly, with Olivia Grossklaus leading the way at 2:02.47. Grossklaus, who has already achieved the NCAA B standard in the event, led Valentina Becerra, Maxine Parkinson and Madison Kinsey.

The Mustangs also had the top three finishers in the 200-yard breaststroke, as Watson (2:21.93) got her second win of the day. Julia Yakushi finished second and Maddy Lewis was third.

SMU's top backstroke competitor at the event was Gabi Grobler, who took the win in the 200 distance with a time of 2:04.38.

The Mustangs swept 1 meter, led by an NCAA Zone qualifying and personal-best 300.97 from Nicole Stambo. Taylor Ohlhauser was also above the NCAA standard at 284.02 for second, and Johanna Holloway was third at 253.20.

Three meter saw a personal-best, NCAA Zone score from Ohlhauser (314.70) for the win and the first Zone score of the season in the event from Holloway (281.47) for second.

SMU swept relays at the event, opening the morning with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.51) from Grobler, Yakushi, Parkinson and Gudmundsdottir. Vandenbussche, Grobler, Smith and Gudmundsdottir closed the day victorious in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.62.

The Mustangs return to the pool after the new year with back-to-back meets against American Athletic Conference foe Houston on Jan. 8 and Rice on Jan. 9 at The Nat.
