The SMU men's swimming and diving team is set to take on the field at the American Athletic Conference Championships starting Wednesday in Houston. The four-day event will take place at the CRWC Natatorium on the campus of the University of Houston.

The Field

The American men's field features four teams – Cincinnati, Connecticut, ECU and SMU. Cincinnati has won back-to-back American championships, while ECU won three straight from 2014-17. Louisville won the team title their only season in the league (2014).

The Mustangs' highest finish is second, a feat they accomplished from 2014-2017.

All-Conference Returners

The Mustangs return 2019 two-time individual conference champion Parker Hardigree. Hardigree, who was named the Diver and Co-Freshman of the Year, won 1 and 3 meter and finished third on platform for three all-conference selections. Ralph Koo has also picked up individual career accolades, doing so in the 100 back in 2018.

On the relay side, Koo (11x), Matthew Nutter (6x) and Matan Segal (3x) have all-league nods to their name.

Championship History

SMU has 36 individual championships through six seasons in The American. Fourteen of those championships come from diving, including all 12 contested on 1 and 3 meter. The Mustangs have also won eight relay championships, five of which are medley relays (200 2x, 400 3x).

SMU currently holds seven American Championship records.

Academic Excellence

The Mustangs were recognized by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a Scholar All-America Team for their fall semester GPAs. To earn Scholar All-America team honors, programs must achieve a 3.0 grade-point-average during the previous semester.

The men finished the semester with a 3.28 GPA, marking an improvement for the Mustangs from the 3.21 from spring of 2019 and the 3.11 from fall of 2018. The 3.28 was the highest GPA posted of any men's program in the American Athletic Conference last fall.
