DES PLAINES, Illinois (Illinois Swimming/SMU) – Former Mustang swimming standout Susan Johnson (Lipscomb) was announced as a member of the Illinois Swimming Hall of Fame's inaugural class.
Induction into the Illinois Swimming Hall of Fame is reserved for those individuals who have made significant impact on the sport of swimming as an athlete member, coach member or contributing individual.
Johnson competed for the Mustangs from 1990-92 and was a seven-time All-American and 1992 NCAA Champion in the 100 breast. She set individual school records in both the 100 and 200 breast, and was part of record-setting medley relays.
A member of the U.S. team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, she competed in the 100 breast and advanced to the event's B Final. She was also a member of the Pan-Pacific Swim Team from 1985-87.
During her prep career, Johnson won State Championships in the 100 breast in Illinois and Florida, posting state high school records in both.
Hall of Fame inductees will be celebrated and honored at the Induction Ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Renaissance Chicago O'Hare in Chicago.
