DALLAS (SMU) – SMU fell to conference opponent No. 18 UCF, 5-2, at the SMU Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Mustangs (9-5, 2-1 AAC) dropped the doubles point after the Knights (9-3, 2-0 AAC) got wins on courts two and three. The No. 60 duo of
Jackie Nylander and
Isabella Tcherkes Zade defeated UCF's No. 47 pair in a 6-4 final for SMU's sole doubles win.
Katherine Jakeway put SMU's first point on the board with a 7-5, 6-1 win on court six.
Sarai Monarrez Yesaki added another for the Mustangs with a hard-fought win on four. She rallied back from a 1-4 deficit in her first set to play to a tiebreak and win, 7-6, before winning 6-2 against her No. 66-ranked opponent.
The Knights earned singles wins on courts one, three and five to clinch their second conference win of the season. Action was played out on two, where Tcherkes Zade played her No. 91-ranked opponent to three sets, but ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Next up, SMU travels to Los Angeles to take on Loyola Marymount on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT.
