DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Women's Soccer adds Abby Dermott to its 2020 signing class, the coaching staff announced on Monday.
Dermott joins the incoming class from Oak Park, California, where she played for Real So Cal DA before joining Eagles SC for the 2019-20 season. While at Real So Cal DA, Dermott helped her team to a national GDA top ranking, a U17 Surf Cup Championship and an appearance in the 2018 US GDA playoffs. Before moving to California, Dermott played in Chester, Pennsylvania, where she was part of the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association Olympic Development Program from 2012 to 2015. She also brings experience at US Soccer Training Centers from 2012-14 with her to the Hilltop.
As a member of her high school's soccer team, Dermott was named the Oak Park High School Female Athlete of the Year this year, was on the Ventura County All-Star Team and was named to the All-Coastal Canyon First Team, All-Ventura County First Team and LA Daily News All-Area Team. She also led the team to its first playoff win in five years.
Dermott is member of the National Honor Society and anticipates starting on a Pre-Health track when she arrives at SMU in the fall. She has two sisters, Amanda (16) and Ava (14), and one brother Derek (11) and enjoys going to the beach, reading and baking. She was attracted to SMU's beautiful campus, strong academics and great coaching staff.
