Women's Tennis Earns NCAA Academic Public Recognition Award

May 13

INDIANAPOLIS (SMU/NCAA) – SMU Women's Tennis earned a Public Recognition Award for its latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR), the NCAA announced Wednesday.

The program earned the award for scoring in the top 10 percent nationally for its sport through the 2018-19 academic year (data from 2015-16 through 2018-19).

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

SMU has 16 APR Public Recognition Awards since the 2004-05 academic year.

SMU Women's Tennis earned ITA All-Academic Awards for the 2018-19 season and had four athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes. Vivienne Kulicke was also named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District team and 10 Mustangs earned American Athletic Conference All-Academic honors.

The team finished its shortened 2019-20 season 9-5 under head coach Jeff Nevolo, earning impressive wins over teams such as Colorado and Arizona as well as AAC opponents Tulane and Wichita State.
