May 19

DALLAS (SMU) – Transfer Caroline O'Connor will join the SMU women's soccer program for the 2020 season, the coaching staff announced on Tuesday.

O'Connor comes to the Hilltop after a year on the team at Virginia Tech. Before joining the Hokies, she hailed from Rumson, New Jersey, where she was a member of the Match Fit Academy ECNL. During her six seasons, she helped her team to the 2016 ECNL American Cup National Championship and spent time in 2015 at the US Women's National Team Soccer Training Center.

At Red Bank Catholic High School, O'Connor was a four year starting midfielder and earned varsity letters all four seasons. She helped Red Bank to the 2016 New Jersey Non-Public State Championship and during her last season, as team captain, the Caseys made the championship game of both the Shore Conference Tournament and the State Tournament. In 2018, she tied for the most assists with eight to total 23 career assists and scored eight goals. She earned multiple postseason honors, including a First Team All-Division A Central selection, First Team All-Shore spot and Second Team All-State Non Public honor.

O'Connor has four siblings, older brother Ryan, who played soccer at Loyola and now attends SMU, and three younger sisters: Bridget, Kathryn and Audrey. Her grandfather, two uncles and an aunt all played collegiate soccer, while another aunt played women's basketball. O'Connor plans on majoring in sports management and chose SMU for its beautiful campus, the area and the great women's soccer program.
