Sep 1

NEW YORK (SMU/US Open) – Former SMU men's tennis player Nate Lammons is scheduled to play US Open for the third straight year, competing in the men's doubles bracket with Nicolas Monroe. The two Americans will face Australians John Peers and Michael Venus in the opening round, which starts Wednesday.

"I'm really excited to compete in the US Open again," Lammons exclaimed. "I've been itching to get back to competition and couldn't think of a better place to do it."

The former Mustang first appeared in the US Open in 2019, when he and partner Robert Galloway lost to No. 15-seed Jamie Robert Murray and Neal Skupski from the United Kingdom. The Americans' opponents lost in the semifinals to the eventual champions.

Lammons, who starred at SMU from 2012-2016, finishing with a 27-7 singles record and a 25-10 doubles record during his senior season. As a professional, Lammons is the 110th ranked doubles player in the world, and won championships in Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio, in two of his last three tournaments.

"The SMU family is so proud of Nate and looking to support him in his first-round doubles match," SMU head coach Grant Chen explained. "He has worked so hard these past few months in the gym and has put in the hours on the court to prepare for this moment. His work ethic is second to none, and he continues to develop his game at each level. Pony Up Nate!"

The first round of the doubles competition will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. Lammons' first match is scheduled for Thursday at 2:05 p.m. CT. For more information, visit www.USOpen.com.
