SMU men's tennis begins its 2021 dual match season with a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on Thursday, Jan. 14 from the SMU Tennis Complex.
 
Matches with the Panthers are slated for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. as the Mustangs open up with Prairie View for the third straight season. The 2021 Mustang roster features four new freshmen additions as well as one graduate transfer in Clarke Wilson. SMU returns 11 letterwinners from last season including senior captains Caleb Chakravarthi and Jan-Simon Vrbsky.
 
The Mustangs posted an 11-5 record during the shortened 2020 campaign, their best winning percentage since 2016. SMU returns 29 of its 52 dual match singles wins from the 2020 season. The squad will look to keep up their dominance at home after posting an 8-2 mark at the SMU Tennis Complex in 2020, with the two losses coming to top-10 teams in TCU and Texas.
 
Apart from the dual match opener, SMU will also be sending a contingent of Mustangs to the TCU Individual Indoor Invitational beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 13 and concluding the following day.
 
After the opening doubleheader, the Mustangs hit the road to face a pair of ranked Big12 schools in Baylor and Texas. SMU faces Texas in Austin on Saturday (Jan. 16) before traveling to Waco to meet up with the Bears in a doubleheader (Jan. 18).
 
Seniors Caleb Chakravarthi and Tomas Vaise ended the season as the 73^rd-ranked doubles tandem in the country. The pair posted a 5-3 record with a ranked win in 2019-20. The new ITA rankings for the 2021 season will be published on Wednesday.
