No. 5 SMU opens its season this weekend at the Dallas Equestrian Center, taking on conference opponents South Dakota State on Friday, Jan. 29 and UT Martin on Saturday, Jan. 30. Both meets will start at 10 a.m. CT.
SERIES HISTORY
The Mustangs and Jackrabbits have faced off ten times since first competing in 2007 and SMU leads the series, 9-1. The biggest win for SMU over SDSU came at the UEC Championships in 2018 with a 15-1 final leading to the championship matchup and eventual conference title.
SMU and UT Martin have met 15 times between regular season and postseason matchups. The Mustangs hold an 11-4 series lead and have won the last five meets. During the 2019-20 season, SMU defeated the Skyhawks 11-7 in Martin en route to landing the top seed for the ECAC championship, which was then canceled due to COVID-19.

Against UT Martin on Saturday, Eppink, Madden, Pielet, Seade and Woodson will be competing in Flat. The Fences lineup will be Madden, Pielet, Seek, Seade and Woodson. Both the Horsemanship and Reining lineups will be the same as Friday.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
The Dallas Equestrian Center will allow fans to be in attendance for SMU's equestrian meets, however ONLY student-athletes and event staff will be allowed in the barn. All fans will be required to wear masks and distance from others while observing the arenas. Fans are permitted to bring their own food and beverages to the facility and are encouraged to bring their own seating. Appropriate restrooms will be provided.
This policy is subject to change throughout the season, especially in the event of inclement weather. The decision to not allow any fans may be made very close to meet day, so please plan travel accordingly.
UP NEXT
SMU travels to Burleson, Texas to take on metroplex rival TCU on Wednesday, Feb. 3 for the first of two road meets this season. TCU will not be allowing fans at the event.
