BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (SMU) – The Mustangs wrapped up action at the Dale McNamara Invitational on Tuesday, and were led by a 12th-place performance from
Kennedy Pedigo.
The finish for Pedigo (71-72-75—218) led the Mustangs for the third consecutive event this season. The senior posted a pair of rounds at par-or-better, bringing her season total to four in nine rounds. It was her second top-15 finish in 2021-22 after finishing tied for third at the season-opening Badger Invitational.
Serena Shah (76-74-75—225) paced the team with 11 birdies, including five in her tournament-best second round of +2, and came away tied for 31st at the end of 54 holes.
Katie James (78-70-78—226) signed for her best round of the tournament to close out the second round on Tuesday morning at 2-under. It was the lowest round score for the Mustangs at the event and tied a career best for the junior. Her three-round total was good to tie for 37th on the leaderboard.
In her first tournament of the season,
Maddi Olson (78-75-80—233) tied for 56th, and
Ashley Chow (83-75-78—236) finished tied for 61st.
SMU finished eighth at the event at 36-over 900 on the par-72, 6,200-yard course
The second round of action, which concluded Tuesday morning, saw the Mustangs fire a +3, the second-lowest team score in the round. SMU collected 46 birdies, the second most of any team, led by Shah's total. Both Pedigo and James added 10 apiece.
UNLV finished atop the team leaderboard at 3-under 861 for the tournament. Nebraska (+8) was second and Fresno State (+18) climbed three spots in the final round to finish third.
SMU returns to action Friday for the three-day Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill. The Mustangs tee off beginning at 10:20 a.m. ET/9:20 a.m. CT. Live results can be found on Golfstat.
