Mustangs Defeat TCU, 177-123

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – The (RV) SMU women's swimming and diving team defeated Metroplex rival TCU, 177-123, in Fort Worth Friday. It was the first dual meet for the Mustangs this season, who are listed among those receiving votes in the CSCAA Top 25 Preseason Poll.

The Mustang divers had a strong showing, sweeping 1 and 3 meter and posting three NCAA Zone qualifying scores.

Johanna Holloway took the top spot on 3 meter with a six-round, NCAA Zone score of 300.97, on 1 meter, she was the runner-up with a 269.25 Zone score. Teammate Nicole Stambo posted her Zone-qualifying 271.20 to win 1 meter and was third on 3 meter (270.45).

SMU swept a pair of events at the meet, including the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. Olivia Grossklaus (2:01.43) paced the field in the 200 fly, while Valentina Becerra (2:03.68) and Maxine Parkinson (2:04.98) followed in order. Gabi Grobler (2:05.10) lead the trio in the 200 IM, with Ilektra Lebl (2:05.54) finishing second and Jenna Watson (2:06.59) third.

Grossklaus' second win of the event came in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:02.29, while Grobler (2:01.65) also picked up a second win in the 200-yard backstroke.

Becerra (55.94) continued to lead the Mustangs in the 100 fly, covering the distance in 55.94 for the win.

SMU also picked up event wins from Annabelle Corcoran in the 1,000 free (10:25.65), Indra Vandenbussche in the 100 free (52.01) and Watson in the 200 breast (2:21.84).

The Mustangs took the closing 200-yard freestyle relay as Alex Stevens, Vandenbussche, Johanna Gudmundsdottir and Tiffanie Ruan clocked a 1:34.75 for the win.

SMU opened the event with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with Grobler, Maddy Lewis, Becerra and Johanna Gudmundsdottir combining for a 1:44.90.

The Mustangs are back in action Friday, Nov. 5 when they host New Mexico State at 5 p.m. Live video and results will be available.
