COLUMBIA, S.C. (SMU) – Claudia Bartolome went 3-0 in singles to lead SMU in the South Carolina Gamecock Shootout this weekend.
 
The Mustangs were 10-8 in singles and 5-4 in doubles against a field that included three other top-50 teams from last season. At the end of 2020-21, Ohio State was No. 12, Michigan No. 16, South Carolina No. 26 and the Mustangs were No. 45. 
 
Bartolome won all three matches in straight sets and only dropped six total games in three matches against competition from Butler and Ohio State.
 
"It was a great weekend of competition at South Carolina.  We fought hard against some of the best teams in the country and learned a lot about the steps we need to take to be successful this spring."
 
Jackie Nylander and Katherine Jakeway had a 2-1 doubles weekend that included wins against duos from Butler and Michigan. Hadley Doyle and Nicole Petchey also won two of three dou8bles matches, picking up victories against teams from Butler and South Carolina.
 
The Mustangs also had a group at the Rice Invite. Freshmen Emma Gretzky, Drew Morris and Cambelle Bouchard joined sophomore Reka Patel in Houston. Gretzky picked up her first collegiate singles victory, a straight sets triumph over Federica Trevisan from Rice.
