DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming and diving team led from day one and never looked back, coming away victorious at the SMU Invitational.
The Mustangs tallied 1,056 points in the team standings, ahead of Drury (693), Hawaii (681) and Fresno State (551).
Frederica Kizek led swimmers on the final night of action, posting an NCAA B cut time of 16:28.98 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. It was the first cut of the season for the junior.
Nicole Stambo (264.30) and
Johanna Holloway (250.75) went 1-2 in platform action, both hitting the NCAA Zone qualifying mark.
The Mustangs secured 2-3-4 finishes in both the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly, led by
Indra Vandenbussche, who clocked a 49.90 in the free, and
Olivia Grossklaus, who registered a 1:59.63 in the fly.
SMU's highest finisher in the 200-yard backstroke was freshman
Kate Janzen, who came in at third in a time of 1:57.72, while
Ashley Lugbill led the team in breaststroke, covering the 200 distance in 2:17.91.
The event close with a pool record 3:17.94 from the 400-yard freestyle relay group of
Gabi Grobler,
Alex Stevens, Vandenbussche and
Johanna Gudmundsdottir.
The Mustangs host a long course time trial event on Sunday, and are back in action in 2022 for the Tennessee Diving Invite (Jan. 3-6) and dual meets at Houston (Jan. 7) and Rice (Jan. 8).
