LAS VEGAS, Nevada – SMU's
Kennedy Pedigo finished in a tie for 19
th to lead the women's golf team at the Rebel Beach Intercollegiate, which concluded Tuesday at Spanish Trail Country Club. Pedigo shot a 4-over 76 in the final round.
Pedigo's day started by finishing the last four holes of her best round in the young season, an even-par 72. Pedigo birdied a team-high eight holes during the tournament, and finished in the top-20 for the first time since a T-11
th at the SMU/DAC Invitational in the Spring of 2020. Pedigo found success all week at the 135-yard par-3 seventh, with pars the first and third round, a birdie in the second round, and a hole-in-one during the practice round.
The Mustangs posted a 317 in the final round, and finished 11
th at +59. Tulsa won the event at +23. Fresno State's Brigitte Thibault earned medalist honors at -5, the only golfer to finish 54 holes under par.
Ashley Chow tied for 40
th, shooting a final-round 77 at the par 72 / 6,400-yard Rees Jones-designed course to end up at +15. One of three freshmen in the lineup, Chow has finished in the top-40 in both of her collegiate tournaments.
Serena Shah, who was playing as an individual, had a resilient tournament in her season debut. Tuesday, Shah parred the final hole of her second round, giving her an even-par 72, then shot a final-round 77. Shah co-led the tournament with a -1 total on the par 3s at Spanish Trail, and co-led the tournament with 40 pars. It was a remarkable bounce-back for the sophomore from Carrollton, who was 11-over through her first nine holes of the tournament, before playing the last 45 of the event at +4.
Freshmen
Megan Chou and
Nicole Vivier tied for 54
th at +18. Chou shot a final-round 80, and Vivier had a third-round 84.
Lauren Chappell rounded out the SMU contingent in 66
th at +25, finishing the event with an 84.
The Mustangs return to action in a week's time at the Icon Invitational, February 22-23 at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
