DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's tennis defeated Tulane, 4-1, on Saturday at the SMU Tennis Complex.
Hadley Doyle and
Jackie Nylander earned a ranked win on line one doubles and Doyle notched another ranked win on line two singles. The Mustangs improve to 3-0 against American Athletic Conference opponents this season and extend their win streak to six games.
"Awesome to finish the homestand with another conference win," said head coach
Jeff Nevolo. "Our response after losing the doubles point was impressive. We've got a great group and more opportunities to come starting with Texas tech on Tuesday."
SMU fell behind early with the Green Wave taking a 2-1 doubles victory. Doyle and Nylander registered the ranked win on line one, 6-4 over No. 54 Mackenzie Clark and M.C. Meredith on line one. Tulane would tally wins on line two over
Claudia Bartolome and
Avery Hilbig and on line three over
Nicole Petchey and
Winslow Huth.
The Mustangs dominated singles play winning nine sets and dropping only one. Nylander won on the top line with a pair of 6-3 sets. Huth evened the score with her quick, 6-1, 6-3 win on court three.
Avery Hilbig earned her second win in as many starts thanks to a 7-5, 6-2 win on court six.
Hadley Doyle faced No. 108 Mackenzie Clark on line two and was able to record another ranked win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Doyle leads the team 10 wins on the season and has a team-high five match winning streak
Bartolome had match point on court four with a 6-3, 5-2 lead when the match was clinched. Petchey trailed by a set on court five.
With the win, the Mustangs end their six-match homestand with a perfect 6-0 record. They have a 10-1 record at home this season.
Next up, the Mustangs make the trip to Lubbock to take on No. 33 Texas Tech on Tuesday. The match is slated for 1 p.m.
