SMU women's tennis hosts UTSA and Northwestern State in a Saturday doubleheader before making a short Monday roadtrip for a rematch with UTA.

The Mustangs had their six-match win streak snapped in Lubbock on Monday at the hands of No. 33 Texas Tech. The team rebounded with a 6-1 victory over Cincinnati to move to 4-0 in American Athletic Conference play.

SMU posted a pair of individual ranked wins last week as Jackie Nylander and Hadley Doyle defeated a ranked opponent in doubles during the win over a Tulane, while Doyle posted a ranked win in singles against the Green Wave.

After the performance, Jackie Nylander was named AAC Player of the Week.

-For the third consecutive week, the Mustangs are receiving votes in the latest ITA top-50. The new set of rankings come out on Wednesday.

-Jackie Nylander has been playing majority of line one for the Mustang. She has a 7-6 record with two matches coming against ranked opponents.

-Hadley Doyle leads the Mustang with 11 singles win this season. She has won her last six decisions. Doyle was named American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after she knocked off No. 83 of LSU. She posted another ranked win in the Mustangs latest victory over Tulane. -Winslow Huth tops all Mustang freshman with six singles wins on the season. Recently, she has teamed with Nicole Petchey for a 2-3 record in doubles. Huth has a 3-0 record in conference action.

-Avery Hilbig made her Mustang singles debut during the previous week. The freshman posted a 2-1 record in singles.

-Claudia Bartolome and Chandler Carter paired up midseason as the Mustangs No. 2 doubles pairing. The duo have a perfect 5-0 record, second on the team.

The Lady Demons come to Dallas riding a three match winning streak and have a 4-3 record on the season. Emilija Dancetovic leads the team at 6-1 in singles. Freshman Mariella Minetti and doubles teammate Patrycja Polanska have played line one for NSU and have a five match winning streak. The Lady Demons and Mustangs are making up a match originally scheduled for Feb. 15.
ABOUT UTSA
The Roadrunners have a 6-7 record in 2021 and face the Mustangs in their second of two DFW matches. UTSA fell 4-2 to UTA on Friday. Their best win on the season came in a 4-1 victory over UNLV. Jasmin Starr plays line one for UTSA and has a 2-5 record. The Roadrunners have used the minimum doubles pairing this season with just three combos. Each doubles partnership is on a two-match winning streak.

The Mavericks are 10-1 on the season with the only coming to the Mustangs, 4-2 on March 11 at SMU. Since the matchup, UTA has taken down Louisiana and ULM in conference matches as well as UTSA. Before the matchup with the Mustangs, the Mavericks host Arkansas State in a Sun Belt match. Polina Akimova leads UTA with a 9-3 singles record while Momoka Horiguchi has a 6-1 dual match record while playing line one. The two combine to form the Mavericks primary line one partnership.

The Mustangs head to Florida for a pair of challenging road conference matches. SMU takes on USF on Friday before facing No. 17 UCF on Sunday.
DOYLE NAMED AAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Hadley Doyle was named American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after her ranked win against LSU. Doyle defeated No. 83 Safiya Carrington of LSU in straight sets on Saturday, 6-2, 6-3 for her first ranked win as a Mustang. It was Doyle's team-high fifth dual match singles victory during the season. The sophomore's earned wins at each of the top three lines.

ITA REGION ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
 Jackie Nylander was named the 2020 Texas Region Rookie of the Year by the ITA. Nylander was a key contributor to SMU's shortened 9-5 season, playing on court one in both singles and doubles winning three ranked matchups. She was also named SMU Female Newcomer of the Year. Nylander was the first Mustang to earn the ITA honor.Â
NCAA APR Award
SMU Women's Tennis earned a Public Recognition Award for its latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR). The program earned the award for scoring in the top 10 percent nationally for its sport through the 2018-19 academic year (data from 2015-16 through 2018-19). The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. SMU has 16 APR Public Recognition Awards since the 2004-05 academic year.
