SMU women's tennis begins a six-match homestand with a Wednesday match against North Texas followed by a Friday doubleheader against Wichita State and Oral Roberts.
 
In their first home match since Feb. 7, the Mustangs square off with North Texas for a 2 p.m. matchup on Wednesday. After an off day on Thursday, the Mustangs face their first AAC opponent in Wichita State at 10 a.m.. Oral Roberts faces the Mustangs later that day at 2 p.m.
 
Last time out, the Mustangs dropped a 6-1 road match to Oklahoma. SMU was able to capture the doubles point against a Sooner team that was sitting just outside the top-25. Hadley Doyle and Jackie Nylander took on the unbeaten Corley sisters on line on and won 6-4. The Sooner duo had a 6-0 record with two wins over ranked opponents this season before the Mustangs handed them their first loss of the season. On court two, Claudia Bartolome and Chandler Carter teamed won 6-4.. Nicole Petchey and Winslow Huth were leading 5-4 when the Mustangs won the point.
 
 
 
-Hadley Doyle tops the Mustangs with five singles match victories. Doyle was named American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week after she knocked off No. 83 of LSU.
 
-Jackie Nylander has been playing majority of line one for the Mustang. She has a 3-4 record with two matches coming against ranked opponents.
 
-The Mustangs have a 5-4 record at line one singles during the season.
 
-Eight different Mustangs have at least three singles wins this season.
 
-SMU has posted a 6-3 record at line two doubles during 2021.
 
-Claudia Bartolome and Winslow Huth lead the team with a 4-2 record in doubles play.

 - All six Mustang losses are against team ranked or receiving votes in the current ITA top-25. In each of the four SMU victories, the Mustangs have swept their opponents, 7-0.
 

 
ABOUT NORTH TEXAS
North Texas is off to a 2-4 start to the 2021 season. The Mean Green have suffered several losses to elite programs including a 7-0 loss to No. 3 Texas and 6-1 loss to Baylor and a 4-2 loss against TCU. UNT has racked up wins against Texas State and Sam Houston. Last season, the Mean Green went 7-7 before the season was canceled. SMU and UNT were scheduled to face off on Senior Day in 2020 from the SMU Tennis Complex.
 
ABOUT WICHITA STATE
The Shockers have a 3-9 record coming into the matchup with the Mustangs. Playing a 2021 schedule that has featured eight matches away from home, Wichita State has lost six in a row during a difficult road stretch. Last season, SMU traveled to Wichita to take on the Shockers. The Mustangs dominated dropping just one set in a 4-0 sweep.
 
ABOUT ORAL ROBERTS
With just four games under their belt in 2021, Oral Roberts is off to a 1-3 start. The Golden Eagles have losses to Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Oral Roberts knocked off Cincinati, 4-3 earlier this season. The team will also face TCU during their trip to DFW.
 
NEXT UP
The Mustangs continue the homestand on Tuesday (March 9) with a match against Memphis followed by a Thursday match against UT Arlington.
 
DOYLE NAMED AAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Hadley Doyle was named American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after her ranked win against LSU. Doyle defeated No. 83 Safiya Carrington of LSU in straight sets on Saturday, 6-2, 6-3 for her first ranked win as a Mustang. It was Doyle's team-high fifth dual match singles victory during the season. The sophomore's earned wins at each of the top three lines.
 
ITA REGION ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
 Jackie Nylander was named the 2020 Texas Region Rookie of the Year by the ITA. Nylander was a key contributor to SMU's shortened 9-5 season, playing on court one in both singles and doubles winning three ranked matchups. She was also named SMU Female Newcomer of the Year. Nylander was the first Mustang to earn the ITA honor. 

NCAA APR Award
SMU Women's Tennis earned a Public Recognition Award for its latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR). The program earned the award for scoring in the top 10 percent nationally for its sport through the 2018-19 academic year (data from 2015-16 through 2018-19). The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.  SMU has 16 APR Public Recognition Awards since the 2004-05 academic year.
