SMU men's tennis hosts Senior Day on Thursday as the Mustangs take on UT Dallas at 9 a.m. from the SMU Tennis Complex.  Later that day, the Mustangs make the short trip to face UTA in Arlington at 4 p.m.
 
Last weekend, the Mustangs defeated a Rice and No. 33 Tulsa on consecutive days with a pair of 4-3 wins. Each match came down to a third-set tiebreaker on the last remaining court. On Saturday in Houston, Liam Krall won his tiebreaker 7-5 to clinch the victory while on Sunday, senior Clarke Wilson pulled out a 7-5 win in his tiebreaker to put the Mustangs in front.  Wilson was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after his performance over the weekend which included a 2-0 record in both singles and doubles.
 
The Mustangs will honor the four seniors, Clarke Wilson, Tomas Vaise, Blaise Fagan and Jan-Simon Vrbsky in a ceremony in between singles and doubles of the match with UT Dallas.




 
SINGLES UPDATE

-Freshman Julian Steinhausen is tied for the Mustang lead with 12 dual match singles wins during the season. 
-Liam Krall has recorded an 13-8 record, tied as well for the most wins. The freshman is 10-5 at the top two lines.
- Caleb Chakravarthi has two ranked wins on the season when he knocked off No. 69 of Oklahoma and No. 84 Diaz of UTA. The senior captain is 5-9 at line one. In his last match, Chakravarthi led No. 52 Oetzbach by a set before the match was clinched.
-Jordi Redelijk has an 8-6 record on the season including 3-0 at line four.
-The Mustangs are 21-14 in third sets this season.
      -14-9 in full third sets
       -7-5 in supertiebreakers
-Clarke Wilson was named ITA UTR National Player of the Week (3/16) after a 3-0 week with wins in both of the Mustangs ranked matchups. The award is given to the Division I player whose increase in UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) was indicative of his or her high level performance.
-Wilson has a 9-6 record on the season.

DOUBLES UPDATE
-The Mustangs have won ten of their last 14 doubles points, including five doubles wins over ranked opponents (No. 35 San Diego, No. 30 Tulane, No. 34 South Florida, No. 4 Baylor and No. 33 Tulsa)
-SMU has recorded a doubles court win on at least one line in 24 consecutive matches, including the 10 matchups against current ranked teams.
-Huntley Allen has a 14-5 record in doubles this season and has a win with six different partners.
-The pairing of Tomas Vaise and Juan Jose Bianchi have a 7-9 record together playing all line one.                  
-The duo have two wins over current ranked pairings, No.45 (Stewart/Moore-Tulane) and No. 28 (Han/Martinez-Oklahoma).
- Caleb Chakravarthi and Liam Krall recorded a ranked win over No. 21 in the Mustang matchup with No. 35 USF. They have a 3-3 record together.
-Huntley Allen and Julian Steinhausen have a 7-0 record together.
-Julian Steinhausen has won his last 10 doubles decisions with Krall and Allen. He's earned wins in seven of the Mustangs ranked matchups.
-Captains Jan-Simon Vrbsky and Caleb Chakravarthi helped clinch the doubles point against No. 4 Baylor with a comeback win over No. 51 Soto/Stachowiak of Baylor.
-The familiar partnership of Tomas Vaise and Jan-Simon Vrbsky teamed up for the first time in 2021 in the win over ACU. The pairing pulled out the critical point by fending off three Wildcat set points.
-19 different Mustang doubles pairings have won a match during the dual match season.
 
 
ABOUT UT DALLAS
The Comets have a 6-7 record competing in the American Southwest Conference of Division III. They defeated Bellhaven (Mississippi), 9-0, in their last time out.  This will be UTD's fourth match against a Division I opponent after losing to Oral Roberts and Louisiana twice.

ABOUT UT ARLINGTON
The Mavericks have a 6-10 on the season including 6-2 on their home courts. The Mustangs defeated UTA earlier in the season in Dallas, 6-1. Caleb Chakravarthi earned a ranked win over Diaz in the match.  The Mavs are looking to end a losing skid with their last win coming over Abilene Christian on March 20.

UP NEXT
The Mustangs host Trinity for the final match of the regular season on Sunday. The team heads to the American Athletic Conference Championship beginning with the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 22.
