DALLAS (SMU) — SMU Men's Tennis was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team and eight team members earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors as announced by the association on Monday.
To earn the ITA All-Academic Team distinction, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or over for the entire 2024-25 academic year.
Along with the team award, eight Mustangs were named 2025 Division I Men's ITA Scholar-Athletes based on their athletic and academic achievements. The Mustangs receiving individual awards are
Jerry Barton,
Vikas Deo,
Georgi Georgiev,
Liam Sunkel,
Noah McDonald,
Eli Susser,
Trevor Svajda and
Eric Hadigian.
To earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the entire academic year.
This award is Barton and Deo's third academic honor of the season. They were named CSC Academic All-District Team in May before earning All-ACC Academic Team honors earlier this month.
For Georgiev, McDonald and Svajda this was their second academic award of the season after earning the All-ACC Academic Team honors.
