ORLANDO, Fla. (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis junior
Trevor Svajda earned a wild card bid to the US Open qualifying round through the American Collegiate Player Wild Card Playoff at the USTA Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Svajda will compete in his second Grand Slam tournament after winning the semifinals of the American Collegiate Player Wild Card Playoff against Ohio State's Aidan Kim (2-6, 6-3, 7-6). His previous Grand Slam appearance was at the 2023 US Open, where he fell to No. 111-ranked James Duckworth (6-7(12), 2-6) in the first round of qualifiers.
The qualifying round matches of the US Open will begin in Aug. 24. Svajda is currently ranked No. 429 in the ATP as he looks to make his return to the tournament after three years.
"I'm honored to have the opportunity to play in this year's US Open singles qualifying event. It is always special to play in our home Grand Slam," Svajda said.
"The USTA hosted an incredible event in Orlando with the American Collegiate Wild Card Playoffs, and I look forward to heading back to New York in August."
Earlier this week, Svajda was named ITA Player to Watch following a decorated 2025-26 season. He earned two All-America honors after reaching the NCAA Singles Championship round of 16 and being ranked No. 4 in the final ITA singles rankings.
The California native was ranked No. 1 in the ITA singles rankings four times this season. He stayed in the top five of the rankings all spring, with a 21-3 singles record in dual play—including nine ranked wins.
This award adds to Svajda's multiple awards in the 2025-26 season. He won two All-America honors, was named the UTR Hurd Award Finalist, All-ACC First Team Singles and is a three-time ACC Player of the Week.
The junior finished the season with a 32-6 record through the fall and spring, including 16 ranked wins. He is fourth all-time in program history in single-season singles wins with 32.
In the pro tour, Svajda won a qualifying match at the ATP 1000 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, defeating Luca Nardi (ATP 135) for his career-high-ranked win. He became the first Mustang to win an ATP 1000-level singles match since Richey Reneberg in 1999.
