SMU Track & Field heads to Norman for the Sooner Invite running Friday and Saturday at the John Jacobs Track Complex on the campus of The University of Oklahoma.

Friday begins with the first half of the Heptathlon along with action from throws and jumps. Friday's evening portion features the prelims of the 100m and the 5000m. Saturday sees the end of the Heptathlon along with the majority of running events and the conclusion of the field portion.
Along with the Mustangs, the field includes host Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Oklahoma Christian, Utah State, Colorado State, UT Arlington, University of Northern Colorado, West Texas A&M and Central Oklahoma.

The Mustangs have two conference leading times during the 2021 Outdoor Season. Freshman
Funminiyi Olajide posted the second-best long jump in program history during the first outdoor meet of the season. He best distance of 6.30m leads the AAC by 0.20m.Â

Ashton Woods tops the conference in the 400m Hurdles after the breaking the program record on three separate occasions over an eight-day stretch. Her current best time of 58.31 is over a second faster than the next best in SMU history.

Chika Iwuamadi, SMU's record holder for the 400m, sits at third in the conference with a best time of 54.45 on the season. Newcomer
Jernaya Sharpe holds the conference's third fastest 100 hurdles time at 13.43.

The NCAA West Prelims are set for May 27-29 at in College Station. The top 48 student-athletes in the region in each event (other than the Heptathlon – top 24) will be accepted along with the top 24 relay teams.
