DALLAS (SMU) – As SMU women's tennis readies itself for the open of its spring 2022 season, it is clear that their goals extend well beyond the weekend.

Jeff Nevolo era, open their nonconference slate on Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex against UTSA and Abilene Christian, respectively. First serve on the opening match against the Roadrunners is set for 11 a.m. The second match against ACU is set to begin at 3 p.m. Both matches will be played indoors, and admission will be free of charge.
SMU, carrying the momentum of its last two winning seasons, opens 2022 with its eyes set on an American Conference title after a 21-10 finish, good for the No. 45 spot on the ITA rankings. 21 wins is the highest program mark since its 23-6 campaign in 2011 which ended in a round of 16 spot in the NCAA Tournament.
All-Time History
The Mustangs enter Sunday's competition a combined 22-0 against its two Sunday opponents. SMU currently holds a 9-0 all-time record over future American Conference member UTSA, the last meeting of the two programs having taken place in 2014 on the Hilltop, ending in a 4-2 team result. The Mustangs have claimed a shutout victory in four of the nine meetings between the two programs.
SMU has yet to yield a team win to afternoon foe ACU, holding a dominant 13-0 record over the Wildcats. The Mustangs enter the match not having given up more than a single point to ACU since 2016. The Wildcats open their inaugural spring season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference following a semifinal berth in the 2021 Southland Conference Tournament, in which they fell 4-3 to eventual runner-up Lamar, 4-3.
New Home, Old Trends
