The Mustangs are back in action this weekend on Friday at Texas Tech's Red Raider Open in Lubbock. The team is coming off its opening meet this past weekend in College Station where they posted seven PRs as a team.Â
"The goal for this meet is to improve upon last weekend and continue to move up on the conference list," jumps coach Austin Brobst said.Â
Heading into the meet, SMU has 20 Top-20 marks in the American Athletic Conference – with most of the placements coming from the 800 meter race and the mile, which had a large number of Mustangs competing at the Ted Nelson meet.Â
Steffi Jones leads the conference with her performance in the 800 and time of 2:14.63. Five other Mustangs are in the Top-20 for the race, including Leoni Mierswa in eighth and Mackenzie Montandon in 12th. Jones also is sixth for The American in the mile posting a time of 5:02.88. Four other Mustangs made it into the Top-20 for the event.Â
The long jump squad's top performances in College Station was also enough to place it at the top of the conference. Raelyn Roberson currently sits in third at her distance of 5.91 meters. Funminiyi Olajide isn't far behind in fifth, and Maykayla Jackson sits in 10th after her SMU Top-10 performance.Â
On the sprints side of the team, Roberson's 60 meter time of 7.76 seconds is good enough for 17th in the AAC. Whitney Williams and K'Nah Isaac sit at eighth and 14th for the 200 meter race. The 400 meter Top-20 also has two Mustangs in it with Madison Savoy in 16th with 58.62 and Emily Waller in 18th. SMU also holds fifth for the 4x400 with last weekend's time of 3:57.99.Â
The Mustangs get started at 10 a.m. on Friday.
