AUSTIN (SMU) – Junior
Lana Mavor debuted her Mustang dual career with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 win at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Austin, against Rice, clinching the 4-2 team win for SMU and advancing the Mustangs to a Saturday 2 p.m. match against No. 1 Texas on the Longhorns' home court.
NC State transfer Mavor opened singles on court four against Rice's Anna Bowtell with a 6-3 win to take the first set. At the 3-3 junction, Mavor broke away from her Owl opposition, taking the next three games to give her a one-set lead.
With the Mustangs already in possession of a 3-0 team lead over Rice, Mavor, with a 5-4 lead over Bowtell in the second set, had an opportunity to seal the Owls' fate and clinch the win. Bowtell and Mavor traded blows through the proceeding games, forcing a 6-6 tiebreaker which Bowtell ultimately won, winning the second set. With the third set tied at 3-3, Mavor once again closed out Bowtell, winning three-straight games on the way to her first career win as a Mustang and clinching the team victory.
The Mustangs opened the affair with a 1-0 lead, claiming a tightly-contested doubles point off wins on the first and second courts for

Lana Mavor. Bartolome/Nylander dispatched of the Owls' Diae El Jardi/Maria Budin 6-2, claiming the first doubles victory for the Mustangs.
Keberle/Mavor on the second flight took a 7-5 victory, after falling behind 5-3 in the contest. On the third court,
Nicole Petchey and
Hadley Doyle fell to a 3-0 deficit before climbing back to 3-3, where both sides traded game wins all the way to a 6-5 tally in favor of Rice, before their match was called.
Keberle claimed the first singles point of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set win over Rice's Frederica Trevisan. The opening set was a close affair early on, with Keberle holding a tight 3-2 advantage over Trevisan, before separating herself on the way to a 6-3 decision. A decisive 6-2 win in the second set clinched the point for Keberle, elevating her to 3-0 on court one to start the spring season.
On the second court,
Hadley Doyle claimed the third point of the day for the Mustangs with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rice opponent Anastasia Smirnova. Neither player could gain more than a one-game advantage over the other through the majority of the second set, leading to a 4-4 tie. Doyle then shut the door on Smirnova, winning the proceeding two games on the way to claiming the 3-0 point for SMU.
SMU's (3-0, 0-0 AAC) Texas draw comes as a result of the Longhorns' 4-0 shutout of FAU on Friday. The match will be live streamed via PlaySight on texassports.com.
