WEST POINT, Miss. (SMU) – SMU women's golf finished in second place after Tuesday's final round at The Ally hosted by Mississippi State at Old Waverly Golf Club.
 
The Mustangs came into the final round with a six-stroke lead over Ole Miss. Seventh-ranked Ole Miss passed the Mustangs early and pushed the lead to seven strokes before the Mustangs were able to work the lead down to the final difference of just two strokes. The Mustangs beat Mississippi State, ranked third nationally, who finished 17 strokes back of the Mustangs in third place. The second-place finish is the Mustangs second top-two showing on the season, after a similar finish at the Dick McGuire Invite back in September.
 
Ellie Szeryk shot a final round 74 to finish at one-under and in sole possession of second place. Szeryk, a junior transfer from Texas A&M, shot her best round of the tournament in round one at three under. After an even par round two, Szeryk sat one shot off the lead heading into the final round. Szeryk would go on to finish two strokes back of champion Andrea Lignell of Ole Miss.
 
Michelle Zhang shot one over on the final day to finish at one over for the tournament. Zhang recorded the best finish of her young career, ending the tournament in a share of fifth place. The freshman has now shot par-or-better, in five of nine rounds during her time as a Mustang.
 
Mackenzie Lee carded below par in each of her first two rounds and wound up finishing the event in a share of eighth place. The 46^th-ranked golfer in the country has five-of-nine rounds below par to start her Mustang career. Lee posted the best marks on par five holes, leading the tournament by shooting five under on the par fives.
 
Ashley Chow had her best round of the tournament in round three, carding an even par 72. Chow would finish her first event of the season in 16th place. Graduate senior Lauren Miller finished in a tie for 33rd place after a final round of 78. Miller's best showing of the event came in an impressive opening-round 71.
 
The Mustangs return to the course on Sunday October 23 for the first two rounds of the Jim West Challenge hosted by Texas State from the Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas.
