Mustangs Come Up Short At No. 25 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (SMU)
- The SMU men's swimming and diving team fell to No. 25 Minnesota by a score of 214-137 in its two-day dual meet at the University of Minnesota that wrapped up Friday afternoon.

SMU finished strong Friday, including winning the 200 freestyle relay along with two different Mustangs who claimed first in their respective event while both Divers earned NCAA Zone Standards.

Dominic Hoefer and Peter Smithson each posted an NCAA Zone Standard on 3 meter. Dominic Hoefer's score of 335.93 earned him second place, and Peter Smithson finished in third, recording a 320.03.

This marks Hoefer's first Zone mark on 3 meter of the season and the fourth of his career. Smithson earned his second consecutive NCAA Standard on 3 meter and  fifth all-time.

SMU posted a solid showing in Friday's relay races. In the 200 freestyle relay, Sage Sungail, Lance Butler, Charlie Kaye and Justin Baker represented the Mustangs taking first place, touching the wall at 1:21.01 to earn the victory.

Riley Hill, Colin Feehery, Russell Exum and Lance Butler led SMU to a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay, swimming a time of 3:19.40.

In the 400 IM, Colin Feehery took first place, swimming a 3:54.16. Feehery's first place finish marks the second time this meet the senior has claimed the top spot in an event. Angus Corbeau's 4:02.90 landed him third overall in the same race.

Feehery was the runner-up in the 200 breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:02.97.

Sungail posted another impressive performance, finishing in the top spot in the 100 freestyle after swimming a time of 45.14. The freshman placed first in an event for the second time this weekend.

John Culver earned the Mustangs points in the 200 backstroke, covering the distance in 1:50.50 to earn a third place finish.  

Russell Exum claimed second place in the 500 freestyle, covering the distance in 4:34.90.

SMU is back in action Saturday, Oct. 29 for a dual meet against UIW/OCU in Dallas.
