HOUSTON (SMU)- The Mustangs conclude the final road tournament of the fall season at the Rice Fall Invitational.

The Mustangs picked up three big wins with a notable first day of the tournament for new doubles partners Blaine Hovenier and Kyle Sillman as they defeated Miguel Alonso and Danijal Muminovic of UTSA 8-7.

Liam Krall and Alex Stafford finished their doubles debut with an 8-1 victory over Quesada Perez and Avery Zavala of Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Krall had a hard-fought victory against Wally Thayne of BYU 7-6, 6-4 in singles.

"Well organized event that was perfect for our guys. We got to see some progress from all the players but still what we need to work on for the spring season," said head coach Grant Chen. "I'm proud of our players for working on the game plan set forth by the coaches. This tournament will help us significantly down the road. The fall has shown so much. We have one final fall tournament where we get to compete at home before everyone gets a small holiday break."

The Mustangs are back in action Nov. 4 at the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex for the Ralston/ Nuefeld Coaches Challenge.
