Mustangs Finish Fourth At SMU Invitational

DALLAS (SMU) – Three individual Mustangs, along with the 400 free relay, earned runner-up honors on the final night of the SMU Invitational to help the SMU women's swimming and diving team finish fourth overall at the three-day event.

The Mustangs finished with a team score of 666 points.

Nicole Stambo earned her third NCAA Zone qualifying score in as many days, turning in a five-round 248.20 on platform for second place. It was her first qualifying score in the event this season after having entered the weekend with scores on 1 and 3 meter.

Also grabbing runner-up honors in her event was Frederica Kizek, who opened the evening session going 16:48.48 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Two more Mustangs finished in the top eight, with Annabelle Corcoran (17:02.16) in sixth and Julianna Penner (17:23.27) eighth.

Maxine Parkinson posted a second-place finish of her own in the 200-yard butterfly, after climbing two spots from her seed position with a time of 1:59.71. Joining Parkinson in the A Final was Valentina Becerra who touched in 2:01.65 for sixth.

The Mustangs had three swimmers in the A Final of the 100-yard freestyle, with two turning in sub-:50 times. Johanna Gudmundsdottir (49.45) led the way with a third-place finish, while Lucrezia Napoletano (49.46) was just behind on the touch. Indra Vandenbussche (50.03) rounded out the group in sixth.

Jimena Leguizamon Leal represented SMU in the Championship Final of the 200-yard backstroke, covering the distance in 2:02.14 for seventh. The Consolation Final saw Olivia Lind (14th, 2:04.10), Kate Janzen (15th, 2:04.27) and Corcoran (16th, 2:04.67) finish in order.

In the 200-yard breaststroke A Final, Jenna Watson finished eighth in a time of 2:16.40, while Julia Yakushi (10th, 2:17.28), Ashley Lugbill (11th, 2:18.34) and Caroline Sullivan (15th, 2:19.24) placed out of the event's B Final.

The event closed with a runner-up finish from SMU's 400-yard freestyle relay as Napoletano, Vandenbussche, Tiffanie Ruan and Gudmundsdottir turned in a 3:18.79.
