Day One Results

DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs posted a pair of runner-up finishes on night one of the American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The four-day event is being held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium on SMU's campus.

Johanna Holloway led SMU in the only individual event of the evening, placing second on 3 meter. After qualifying for the Championship Final with a 312.60 in the preliminary session, Holloway improved her six-round score to 324.25 for the second-place finish. All three Mustangs competing in the A Final stayed above the NCAA Zone qualifying standard with Nicole Stambo (298.45) placing fifth and Jaclynn Fowler (287.55) seventh.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Gabi Grobler, Maddy Lewis, Valentina Becerra and Johanna Gudmundsdottir clocked a season-best 1:39.66 and were narrowly out-touched by Houston (1:39.48) to finish second.

The evening opened with a third-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay as Indra Vandenbussche, Jenna Watson, Ilektra Lebl and Janelle Gursoy combined for a season-best 7:14.54. Vandenbussche led off the relay with a career-best 1:47.81.

SMU sits second in the team standings with 109 points. Houston leads the event at 154, while Tulane rounds out the top three at 90. Cincinnati (38) and ECU (36) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Action resumes Thursday at 10 a.m. CT on ESPN+ with the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1 meter and the 200 free relay on the schedule.
