Day One Scores
LA QUINTA, Calif. (SMU) – The SMU men's golf team completed the opening round of The Prestige tied for seventh in a field of 24 of the nation's top collegiate amateur programs. The Mustangs are currently tied with host UC Davis at 11-over 295.
The Mustangs finished the day in the top ten in stroke average on par fours (3.30) and par fives (5.12), while finishing the day 11
th on par four holes (4.20).
Junior
Prescott Butler led the way throughout the day for SMU, notching an even-par 71 through the opening round of the three-day tournament. Â Butler, hitting par or better on 16 holes including birdies on nine and 12, ended the day tied for ninth place among a field of 120 participants. Butler's standing pushed as high as third place, after his second birdie on the twelfth hole elevated his score to -1 on the day. Butler's -1 on par fives (4.67) is good for the seventh-best stroke average of the field.

Nathan Petronzio's 15 and 14 respective par totals were the tournament's first and second most of the day.
Petronzio and senior
Noah Goodwin both carded a plus-three 74 to open the tournament, finishing the day tied for 32
nd.
Goodwin's four birdies of the day left him tied for the third-most in the category. The reigning AAC Golfer of the Year totaled even on the back nine with two birdies, but could not gain ground on a plus-three outing through the first eight holes of the day.
Petronzio's 15-par outing was marred by just three bogeys on the fifth, eighth, and 15
th holes, leaving him tied for 32
nd with teammate Goodwin.
Vanderbilt and Oregon both closed day one tied for first with a plus-three 287, with LSU just one stroke behind the pair.
