Mustangs
Ollie Osborne enters day one of the Southern Highlands Collegiate looking to build on the momentum he amassed through the final round of The Prestige. The junior logged two eagles through the first nine holes of the final round of the PGA West tournament, tying the second-best score of the field through the front nine of the third round. Osborne finished the final round with a two-under 69 and tied for 45th in a field of 120 competitors. Osborne's two eagles for SMU tied the most for an individual, and was second only to San Francisco's three throughout the three-day event. The junior finished with the seventh-best individual performance on par fives (-3, 4.67 avg.).
Prescott Butler led scoring for SMU throughout the week at The Prestige, finishing with a team-high 12-over 220, just three strokes shy of the junior's 54-hole best (+9 222, Trinity Forest Invitational, Mar. 7-9, 2021). Three consecutive birdies to open the final round had Butler placed as high as third on the day, before ending the round with a four-over 75 and completing the tournament tied for 12th.
Nathan Petronzio opened the spring season leading the Mustangs efforts at the Southwestern Invitational, carding a one-over 215, good for a 13th-place ranking. An under-four first round propelled Petronzio through the week's competition, keeping him within striking distance of a medal finish. The junior's -10 performance at par-five holes tied for the best in the tournament, hitting par or better on all twelve par-five holes played, including an eagle on a second-round 15th hole. Goodwin led the way for the Mustangs throughout, hitting a tournament-low 65 in the second round on the way to an individual title at -15 for the event, the second-lowest score of a champion in the event's history. Including Goodwin's medal finish, three Mustangs finished inside of the top 20 (Goodwin 1st, Osborne/
Holden Wisener T-5th), while the team totaled nine rounds in the 60's throughout the event.
The Mustangs, whose 2021 season ended with a 17th-place finish in the NCAA Championships, posted four top-three finishes as a team in eight events, including the win at the spring Trinity Forest Invitational.
